                          Carpentry Department

........"the Foundation has taught me a trade and put me on the right path.  I came with nothing and will leave a fully qualified Carpenter".      JT September 2013

THIS IS ONE OF THE TOP PICKED DEPARTMENTS.

TRAINEES  NOW HAVE AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO TRAIN IN SITE CARPENTRY.  THE DEPARTMENT AIMS AT TEACHING TRAINEES FROM 16 YEARS OF AGE WHO WANT TO WORK IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY.   IF YOU ARE COMMITTED AND PREPARED TO MAKE AN EFFORT, YOU WILL LEAVE WITH  YOUR FUNCTIONAL SKILLS IN MATHS AND ENGLISH WHICH OUR ON-SITE TUTOR WILL HELP YOU WITH, AND OF COURSE A NVQ LEVEL 2 QUALIFICATION IN INTERMEDIATE APPRENTICESHIP IN WOOD OCCUPATIONS.  MOST OF OUR TRAINEES GO ON TO WORKING IN CONSTRUCTION FITTING DOORS, WINDOWS,  FLOORING AND ROOFING SO THIS IS A VERY GOOD TRADE TO LEARN.

After two years in our Site Carpentry Department you will have a variety of skills essential for working in site construction.

The Foundation's Site Carpentry department is housed in a large modern workshop, fully equipped to teach you all the required skills needed in the construction industry.

No prior experience is necessary as full training is given.    This is a very popular and exciting department to join from the age of 16 years and in your two year placement you should be fully conversant in hanging/fixing doors, frames, moulding, skirting boards, roofing and flooring.

All these skills are essential if you want to work in the construction industry and after around two years of working in this department, trainees will be competent Site Carpenters, qualified with an NVQ Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Wood Occupations.

This beach hut was one of the impressive items on  our stand at the South of England Show 2011 and helped us win First Prize for Best Stand in Show.

Participation in vocational qualifications is encouraged in this department to complement practical skills and our tutor is available to provide any necessary support with written work and with general communication, mathematical and IT skills.

In 2012 Jack won 1st Prize in the Young Craftsmen of the Year competition at the South of England Show and also 1st prize as Overall Young Craftsman of the Year. His prize money was over £1,000 and he received more publicity than a celebrity!

What a way to end your work experience.

This department  were extremely proud to have been given the opportunity of making 30 table tops for the Visitor's Restaurant at Arundel Castle.

The Site Carpentry team were lucky to be invited for a tour around the castle and grounds with some refreshments in appreciation of their work.
